TITLE:                      Development Associate

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Perform a variety of duties including: support to all fundraising events and campaigns to benefit Pathlight. This team member will play an instrumental role in identifying and cultivating relationships with corporate sponsors as well as stewarding donor relationships. This position requires a detail oriented, organized self-starter who has a commitment to creating a high-quality donor experience.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Coordinate sponsor cultivation process for the organization by providing technical assistance to the Development Manager, including preparing sponsorship packet; tracking and notifying programs of sponsor solicitation and report schedules; and gathering information on, and accurately recording all sponsorships received.  Maintain historical sponsorship activity information in donor database.
  2. Manage organization sponsorship program in coordination with the programs and Development manager. Maintain comprehensive list of sponsors and which events they have sponsored.  Follow-up with sponsor to ensure that the sponsors have provided the required information for publications and dissemination.
  3. Research sponsorship on a national, local, private or public level and identify potential funding source matches. Develop relationships with sponsors.
  4. Manage donor database for Pathlight fundraising. Produce standard and ad hoc reports on donor analytics.  Work with programs to provide organization-wide information on fundraising.
  5. Responsible for maintaining donor information gifts, addresses, categories and notes according to policies in the donor management system.  Recommend any changes to the Development Manager.  Reviews program donor databases for consistent application of policies. 
  6. Prepare and send timely donor acknowledgements according to department standards.
  7. Work with Development Manager to plan, organize and execute organization's annual mailings including fundraising appeals, newsletters, annual report and sponsorship solicitation.  Pull list/sort/filter by criteria.
  8. Manage printed materials, mailing list and tracking responses. Coordinate with post office, printer and mailing house. 
  9. Assist Development Manager in coordinating logistics for all fundraising events such as: transporting event supplies, placing orders for event materials, check-in and registration, record keeping, mailings, donor correspondence, marketing assistance and other tasks as assigned.
  10. Monitor progress of event registrations, ticket sales, and income, reporting on progress to meet projected goals.
  1. Coordinate with Communications department donor recognition plans, including which donors to highlight in publications, at Annual Dinner, and more.
  2. Perform other similar duties as responsibilities necessitate and/or as assigned or requested by supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  1. Knowledge of basic research principles and grant research, application and writing; proficient in English equivalent to a B.A. degree.
  2. Computer knowledge and experience required, including Microsoft programs Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Database experience, Wordpress (or other web development software).
  3. Over 1 and up to and including 3 years of fundraising or administration experience.
  4. Experience initiating contact with prospective funders required.
  5. Experience coordinating events and experience maintaining relationships with sponsors preferred.
  6. Requires valid driver's license and reliable transportation / vehicle.

  2. Requires the use of judgment to work independently to analyze the facts and circumstances surrounding individual problems and situations and in the determination of actions to be taken within the limits of standard or accepted practice.
  3. Ability to interact with contacts inside and outside the department and agency furnishing or obtaining information requiring tact to avoid friction and obtain cooperation and requiring considerable professionalism in contacts to develop and maintain productive relationships.
  4. Must be able to work with confidential data such as donor and grant application information which if disclosed may have adverse internal or minor external effect.
  5. Highly organized and detail oriented with the ability to prioritize tasks, implement and track projects, set goals, and effectively manage time; creative and ability to effectively work in team environment and proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to new or unexpected challenges.
  6. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with diverse groups and present data on which management bases important decisions, and the ability to read, write and communicate in English.
  7. Must be able to maintain regular attendance.
