TITLE:                      Development Manager 

GRADE:                    10 Exempt


Summary of Position:

We're looking for a dynamic fundraiser who is detail-oriented, able to juggle multiple deadlines and projects, and loves to talk about the great work of Pathlight. The manager will work closely with the Director to implement a comprehensive fundraising plan including direct mail, events, corporate and foundation gifts, and grantwriting.

This entry-level manager is responsible for the management/coordination of the organization's annual giving, sponsorship, and grants programs to meet organization's strategic objectives. Builds relationships with donors, potential donors, corporate supporter and foundations.


Essential Job Functions:

1.In collaboration with Development and Communications Director, implement a comprehensive fundraising strategic plan encompassing all facets of development, including, but not limited to, annual appeals, individual gifts, corporate and foundation gifts, grants, online gifts, special events, and event and project sponsorship. 

2.  Under the direction of the Development and Communications Director, implement and manage overall organization's annual fundraising campaign to achieve success. Consult and support annual campaigns at the program level. This includes ensuring successful launch and production of organization's annual campaigns; overseeing the organization's campaign solicitation, recruitment, and tracking materials; and providing staff support to the annual campaign committee members.

3.  Cultivate relationships with current key donors and new prospects. Conduct ongoing stewardship of existing individual donors and institutional contacts.  Work with Development and Communications Director and Board groups to implement a specific plan for donor acquisition.

4.  Under the direction of the Development and Communications Director, responsible for maintain an existing system for tracking grants, applications, and reporting needs.

5.  Manage the organization-wide calendar of development activities. Support development team on fundraising events. Manage sponsorship solicitation, tracking, and recognition.

6.  Work with the Communications Manager to plan and manage organization fundraising publications, annual and campaign reports, estate/planned giving and endowment materials.

7.  Oversee the organization's data collection of donor and prospect information, gift entry and other procedures necessary to ensure accurate and timely information and donor acknowledgements.  Ensure comprehensive reporting on fundraising progress and results against goals.

8.  Oversee the organization's stewardship of donors. Ensure quality control on all donor information and acknowledgement.

9.  Collect and analyze data on current donors and prospects to improve organization's fundraising results.  Report industry standard fundraising metrics to Development and Communications Director and relevant Board Committees. 

10.  Manage  and execute strategies to research, cultivate and solicit qualified prospects for planned gifts in collaboration and cooperation with the Director of Development and Communications.

11.  Perform other similar duties as responsibilities necessitate and/or assigned or requested by supervisor.


Knowledge and Experience Required:

  1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent required.  Broad knowledge of a discipline such as marketing, fundraising, communications, public relations.
  2. Proficiency in MS Office applications, websites, fundraising databases required. 
  3. Knowledge and experience with Facebook and other Social Media, QR Codes, mobile marketing, and mobile fundraising desired.
  4. Grant writing experience preferred.
  5. Over 1 year and up to and including 3 years of progressive learning experience including fund development, communications, marketing, and project management.
  6. Requires valid driver's license and reliable transportation/vehicle.


Skills and Abilities Required:


  1. Must be able to maintain regular attendance.
  2. Proven ability to implement fund development programs where analysis, forecasting and problem solving are critical.
  3. Requires attention to detail and accuracy, problem solving, initiative, and critical thinking in determining best action within accepted practices.
  4. Ability to interact with contacts inside and outside the department and organization carrying out fundraising programs' objectives and influencing others where improper handling will have marked effect on results or operations.  Professionally represent the organization.
  5. Requires the ability to operate with absolute integrity, demonstrating confidentiality, ethics and trust.  Must be able to work with confidential data such as donor and key target profiles and financial information which, if disclosed, inadvertently could have detrimental effect on Pathlight's fundraising efforts and image.
  6. Ability to effectively work in a team environment; proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to adapt to new and unexpected challenges; and ability to prioritize tasks, implement and track projects, set goals and effectively manage time.
  7. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with and present to diverse groups.  Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
